Schools and training centres often have many devices connecting at the same time during lessons, examinations or staff meetings. The design must balance classroom coverage, device density, access control and straightforward administration so that connectivity supports learning rather than becoming a daily interruption.
Plan for classroom density
A classroom with dozens of laptops behaves differently from a corridor with occasional phone traffic. Estimate the number of simultaneous devices per room, identify applications used in lessons and assess wall materials. Provide adequate wired uplinks and avoid placing all busy rooms on a single overloaded access point.
Separate staff, student and visitor access
Use separate network policies for administrative systems, student devices and guests. Apply filtering and access controls consistent with school policy and applicable law. Keep network management credentials restricted and use central management where it reduces the burden of maintaining many access points.
Make support and safeguarding practical
Document who can change settings, how devices are updated and how incidents are reported. Monitor coverage in actual school hours and review performance after classroom layouts change. Compare wireless equipment based on concurrent client support, management features and the building survey.
